VERSES OF WISDOM

“Your eyes are composed of white and black components, and you only see through the black.” (Midrash Bamidbar Rabbah 15:7)

So often, it is only through the dark, painful moments in life that we really gain insight, clarity, and spiritual growth.

“Man believes in himself and questions the Almighty when really, we should believe in the Almighty and question ourselves.”

(Rabbi Avraham Tanis)

Someone came to R’ Yissachar Dov Ber of Wolborz and said that he is ready to repent of his sins – but on condition that he’ll be spared from any punishment he may deserve. The Rebbe replied, “Were your sins also committed on condition?”

Rabbi Aryeh Levin was known as the Tzadik (righteous one) of Jerusalem. He and his fiance’ were desperately poor when they got married. Before their wedding, he said to Tzipora Chana, “It’s customary in Jerusalem for a groom to give his bride a gift and for she to present one to her groom. But what can we do – since we’re both orphans and can’t afford to purchase any gifts?

“So, let’s give each other a gift that won’t cost any money. Let’s promise each other that during our marriage, we’ll be generous and forgiving to each other. This will be an incredibly wonderful gift that we can each certainly afford.”
