THE LIGHT OF TORAH

The word “Torah” is related to at least two other words: (1) Ohr, which means light. The Aramaic translation of Torah is Oraissa, which means Light. (2) The root ‘yrh’ – which means to shoot or project.

Torah, of course, is meant to illuminate our world and our lives. It is also supposed to move us in a certain direction. The light of Torah directs us to that destination. And if you learn Torah properly, it has the ability to actually project you and move you toward its goals of getting closer to Hashem and of refining and purifying our personalities.
