While the serpents introduce the drama, it is Moses’ compassionate and humble response that carries the greatest lesson.

It serves as a spiritual parable about sin, repentance, humility, and redemption. Both G-d and Moses demonstrate the power of mercy, and they invite us to join them in that divine work.

May we, like Moses, learn to acknowledge our faults, forgive others with open hearts, and pray for the healing of all — for in doing so, we bring G-d’s redemption closer, both in our lives and in the world around us.

Von Angelique Sijbolts
Mit Dank an Rabbi Moshe Bernstein für das Feedback

Quellen:

Daily Wisdom of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Volume 3 p. 318

Footnote:

Reader’s Question:
The article states the following:
“…they appealed to Moses to intercede… Rather than praying directly to G-d, they turned to Moses, trusting in his merit and spiritual stature.”
As I understand it, Bnei Noach are meant to pray directly to G-d and do not need to appeal to another human being to intercede.
Am I missing something?

Response:
That’s a very thoughtful and important question. You’re absolutely right that Bnei Noach — just like anyone — can and should pray directly to G-d. There is no obligation to go through another person.

The example in the article, where the Israelites appealed to Moses, doesn’t imply that they were forbidden to pray themselves. Rather, they turned to Moses because of his extraordinary spiritual merit and closeness to G-d, asking him to intercede on their behalf. They believed his prayers might be more effective — not instead of their own prayers, but in addition to them.

In the same way, when someone approaches a great rabbi today, it’s not because the rabbi is expected to solve everything for them. Instead, the rabbi can offer prayers or blessings, but the individual must still do their own part — through personal prayer, effort, and spiritual growth. That way, they create a proper “vessel” to receive the blessing.

So yes — Bnei Noach certainly pray directly to G-d. Seeking the prayers of a spiritually elevated individual is not a replacement for one’s own connection to G-d, but a supplement to it.

Texte Mechon Mamre

© Copyright, alle Rechte vorbehalten.
