Cit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>The Rambam wrote, \u201cand anyone who considers the idea that there is another god besides [G-d Himself], that person has transgressed a prohibition, as the verse states, \u2018you shall not have any other gods besides Me\u2019. And this person is a heretic regarding the main principle [of the Torah], a principle upon which everything depends.\u201d Therefore, Chazal say that \u2018I am the L-rd your G-d\u2019 and \u2018you shall not have any other gods besides Me\u2019 were stated simultaneously in one utterance. For these mitzvot, one positive and one negative, derive from one another. The belief in the Oneness of G-d [and therefore that He Alone is to be worshipped] flows from the belief in the necessary existence of G-d, as the Rambam has proven in his <em>Guide to the Perplexed<\/em>. The positive commandment to believe in the existence of G-d contains the prohibition to worship any other god, and the belief in His Singularity includes the belief in G-d as the First Existence. When the verse adds, \u201cbefore\u201d or \u201cbesides Me\u201d, this is to aid a person from making the mistake of the generation of Enosh. They would say that the Holy One, Blessed is He, gave of His Glory to the stars and the constellations, like a king who bestows authority upon his ministers and servants. Regarding this, the verse says \u05e2\u05dc \u05e4\u05e0\u05d9, \u201cbesides Me\u201d, meaning, \u201cI am to be found everywhere\u201d [i.e., wherever you find My Glory, it is Me].
