Instead of a curse, he uttered blessings\u2014divinely inspired and spiritually charged. What stands out is his deep yearning: to die the death of the \u201crighteous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why would an enemy of Israel suddenly express such a longing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Acknowledging Eternal Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En <strong>Da\u2019at Zekenim<\/strong> explains that this statement proves Balaam believed in the existence of an afterlife. At that moment, he spoke with <strong>Ruach HaKodesh<\/strong>\u2014the Holy Spirit\u2014and caught a glimpse of the spiritual reward of Israel\u2019s righteous. He recognized their destiny in the World to Come as desirable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This recognition is vital: it shows that the path of righteousness is <strong>universal<\/strong>. Even a non-Jewish prophet acknowledged the eternal value of spiritual integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Righteous Gentiles and the World to Come<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea that righteous non-Jews also have a portion in the World to Come is firmly rooted in Jewish tradition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rambam (Mishneh Torah, Kings 8:11):<\/strong><br>Anyone who accepts and observes the seven Noahide commandments <strong>because<\/strong> God commanded them through Moses is considered among the <em>chasidei umot ha\u2019olam<\/em>\u2014the righteous among the nations\u2014and merits a share in the World to Come.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Midrash (Yalkut Shimoni, Isaiah 429):<\/strong><br><em>\u201cIn the future, God will grant the World to Come to the pious among the nations, and they will serve as priests to Him.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zohar Chadash (Ruth 96a):<\/strong><br>Non-Jews who turn away from idolatry and sin will receive a holy spirit and soul from God and will have their own place in the World to Come\u2014distinct from Israel, yet real and meaningful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>En <strong>Yafe To\u2019ar<\/strong>, a classic commentary on Midrash Rabbah, confirms that the <strong>resurrection of the dead<\/strong> also applies to righteous Gentiles who accept divine truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the <strong>Talmud<\/strong> (Sanhedrin 90a) adds a crucial condition: only those who accept the belief in resurrection will merit the World to Come. Faith in God&#8217;s plan is essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Wish\u2014and a Warning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Returning to Balaam: the <strong>Or HaChaim<\/strong> y el <strong>Z\u00f3har<\/strong> note that his wish was double-edged. He may have hoped to live however he pleased\u2014sinfully, indulgently\u2014and still enjoy the reward of the righteous by repenting at the last moment. A tempting thought, but spiritually dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because true righteousness is not forged on one\u2019s deathbed. It is the result of a <strong>life<\/strong> of devotion, moral choices, and connection to God. Balaam desired the reward without the work. That\u2019s not righteousness\u2014it\u2019s wishful thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pirkei Avot: Living Each Day as Your Last<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This idea is echoed and clarified in the words of <strong>Rabbi Eliezer<\/strong> (<em>Pirkei Avot<\/em> 2:10):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cRepent one day before your death.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His students asked:<br><em>\u201cBut how does one know when they will die?\u201d<\/em><br>He replied:<br><em>\u201cThat is precisely why one must repent every day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This statement reverses Balaam\u2019s flawed desire. Instead of hoping for a \u201crighteous death,\u201d we are called to live a <strong>righteous life<\/strong>. It&#8217;s not about a final moment of regret\u2014it\u2019s about <strong>daily consciousness and commitment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>For Bnei Noach: No Delay\u2014Only Dedication<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a powerful and personal message for <strong>Bnei Noaj<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The path to divine connection is open to all who accept the seven laws of Noah as divine commandments. But that path demands <strong>acci\u00f3n<\/strong>, not passive belief. Not later\u2014<strong>ahora<\/strong>.
