Sin embargo, m\u00e1s tarde en <strong>1 Samuel 8<\/strong>encontramos un cambio sorprendente. Cuando el pueblo pide al profeta Samuel un rey \"como todas las naciones\", Samuel se muestra profundamente contrariado. S\u00ed, la Tor\u00e1 <strong>permite e incluso ordena<\/strong> nombramiento de un rey (<em>Sanedr\u00edn 20b; Rambam, Hiljot Melajim 1:1<\/em>), pero no sin condiciones. Y sobre todo:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\"No har\u00e1 que el pueblo regrese a Egipto... porque el Se\u00f1or te ha dicho: No volver\u00e1s por ese camino otra vez\".<\/strong><br><em>(Deuteronomio 17:16)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Egipto como met\u00e1fora<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 una advertencia tan en\u00e9rgica? Egipto no es s\u00f3lo un lugar f\u00edsico. Simboliza <strong>confinamiento espiritual<\/strong>dependencia, materialismo y desconexi\u00f3n de Dios. El rey - y m\u00e1s ampliamente, cualquier \"fuerza gobernante\" en nuestras vidas - <strong>no debe hacernos retroceder<\/strong> a ese lugar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rabenu Bahia<\/strong> explica:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\"La Tor\u00e1 establece la diferencia entre los reyes israelitas y los gentiles. Un rey jud\u00edo no debe centrarse en la riqueza, el poder militar o el estatus, sino en la Tor\u00e1. El rey debe proteger al pueblo de eso\".<\/em><br><em>(Rabenu Bahia sobre Deuteronomio 17:16:2)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esto no es s\u00f3lo simb\u00f3lico - es tambi\u00e9n hal\u00e1jicamente una de las 613 mitzvot: la prohibici\u00f3n de volver a Egipto. Esta mitzv\u00e1 se aplica en todas las circunstancias, incluida la obligaci\u00f3n del rey de no llevar nunca a la naci\u00f3n de vuelta all\u00ed f\u00edsica, econ\u00f3mica o pol\u00edticamente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does this mean for us today?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We may not appoint kings anymore. But we <strong>do appoint rulers<\/strong> over our inner world. Our choices, emotions, memories, ambitions \u2014 they often &#8220;sit on the throne&#8221; of our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes past events \u2014 traumas, formative experiences, old desires \u2014 continue to govern us. These experiences can be valuable if they serve as a <strong>springboard for growth<\/strong>. But they must not bring us <strong>back to Egypt<\/strong> \u2014 to patterns or spiritual places where we no longer belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Como el <strong>Lubavitcher Rebe<\/strong> ense\u00f1a:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe surest recipe for success in life and for spiritual self-fulfillment is to eliminate activities, pursuits, or objects that do not further our spiritual growth or the fulfillment of our Divine mission. When we avoid squandering our G-d-given gifts and abilities on unproductive matters, we can focus our energy and talents more fully on productive, purposeful pursuits.\u201d<\/strong><br><em>(Daily Wisdom, Inspiring insights on the Torah portion from the Lubavitscher Rebbe, Volume 3, p 389)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although there is no explicit Torah commandment for Gentile nations to appoint a king, the general Noahide obligation \u2014 included in the sixth law \u2014 is to establish a just society. This means Noahides should also strive to appoint a righteous ruler, whether a king, president, prime minister, or other leader, who will uphold justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, Rabbi Yonatan Shteif (Mitzvot Hashem, p. 453) rules that the prohibition against cursing a leader (a Nasi) applies to Noahides as well. This respect, however, is due only if the leader himself observes the Seven Noahide Commandments<strong><em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rulership in our lives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each day presents a choice: who or what governs us? Our higher self, guided by Divine will? Or the echoes of Egypt \u2014 fear, ego, and worldly desire?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Torah allows for a king \u2014 a structure, a vision, a plan \u2014 <strong>but only if<\/strong> it serves G-d\u2019s will and not the lower instincts of the people. Leadership, both personal and collective, must point upward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final Thought: The King as Elixir<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rabenu Bahia<\/strong> offers a profound insight into the phrase <em>\u201c\u05e9\u05d5\u05dd \u05ea\u05e9\u05d9\u05dd \u05e2\u05dc\u05d9\u05da \u05de\u05dc\u05da\u201d<\/em> (\u201cyou shall surely appoint a king\u201d):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe word \u05e9\u05d5\u05dd (som) is linked to the word \u05e1\u05dd (sam), meaning \u2018elixir.\u2019 A king is like a medicine: when appointed with pure intention to serve G-d, he becomes the elixir of life. But if chosen for worldly or selfish reasons, he becomes a poison \u2014 the elixir of death.\u201d<\/em><br><em>(Rabbeinu Bahya on Deuteronomy 17:15:3)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our past must inform us, but <strong>not rule us<\/strong>. Let us not turn around and march back into Egypt. Instead, we use our experiences \u2014 even painful ones \u2014 as tools for ascent. Not a chain, but a ladder.
