Their mention in the Torah portion of &#8220;Ki Tetzei&#8221; in the book of Deuteronomy (22:13-23:9) shows their supreme importance, both for the Jewish people and for all of humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prohibitions against forbidden relationships, which were given to Adam from the very beginning of creation, are a fundamental test of a person&#8217;s self-nullification before the will of the Creator. They require a person to overcome their human desires and passions for the sake of fulfilling a divine command. These prohibitions reflect the value that a human being must recognize that there is a higher order than one&#8217;s private desires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prohibition of illicit relations is not only moral but also practical. The family unit is the cornerstone of any well-ordered society. Adultery and other forbidden relationships undermine the stability of the family, damage mutual trust, and lead to confusion of identity among children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The world&#8217;s sustenance is another reason for this prohibition: As it is said, &#8220;day and night they shall not cease&#8221; (Genesis 8:22), the world was created to be sustained and to endure. Sexual immorality can lead to a violation of the natural and social order, and therefore, these prohibitions are essential for the settlement of the world and its continued proper existence. They ensure that the human race continues to exist in a systematic and organized manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Violating the prohibitions of incest undermines the purpose of creation, as these acts deviate from the plan and order established by the Creator of the world for the benefit of all His creatures. The observance of these prohibitions is essential to fulfilling the purpose for which humanity was created. G-d, the ultimate good, gave man a framework in which he would fulfill the purpose of his creation and be blessed with the privilege of having children.
