Through the spiritual work of the Jews during Elul, Rosh HaShana and Yom Kipur, the Jews refine the nations of the world during Sukkot, gaining a special joy in Shemini Atzeret that influences the nations of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s talk about something that sounds simple: <strong>why Sukkot is a festival of joy \u2014 also for non-Jews (Bnei Noach).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rebbe spoke about this in 1966, based on <strong>Psalm 117<\/strong>, the shortest psalm in the entire Book of Psalms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cPraise G-d, all you peoples; extol Him, all you nations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For His kindness has been mighty over us, and the truth of G-d is eternal. Hallelu-kah!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems short and clear, but there\u2019s a lot hidden inside.<br>Three main questions arise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why should <em>other nations<\/em> praise G-d for kindness shown \u201cover us\u201d \u2014 meaning, over the Jewish people?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What\u2019s the difference between \u201cpeoples\u201d (<em>goyim<\/em>) and \u201cnations\u201d (<em>le\u2019umim<\/em>)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What does it mean that \u201cthe truth of G-d is eternal\u201d?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s explore this step by step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Holidays in Sequence<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From the month of <strong>Elul<\/strong> a trav\u00e9s de <strong>Sucot<\/strong>, the Jewish calendar forms one great spiritual journey:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Elul:<\/strong> preparation \u2014 reflecting on the past year and making resolutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rosh HaShanah:<\/strong> crowning G-d as King.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Yom Kippur:<\/strong> forgiveness \u2014 the 13 Attributes of Divine Mercy are revealed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sukkot:<\/strong> that mercy flows down into the physical world, into everyday life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The 70 Bulls of Sukkot<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During Sukkot, the Torah commands the offering of <strong>70 bulls<\/strong> in the Temple. The sages explain that these 70 offerings represented <strong>the 70 nations of the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words: the Jewish people brought sacrifices <strong>not only for themselves, but for the well-being of all humanity<\/strong> \u2014 for rain, harvest, prosperity, and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Talmud even says: <em>\u201cIf the nations had known how much blessing they received from the Temple, they would have guarded it instead of destroying it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Those Offerings Accomplish<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On a simple level, they bring <strong>sustenance<\/strong> \u2014 the world\u2019s livelihood. On a deeper level, they bring <strong>spiritual refinement<\/strong>:<br>awakening within every person the awareness that <strong>they too have a direct relationship with G-d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every human being can know and feel G-d \u2014 no intermediaries needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sukkot helps awaken that awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Psalm 117 Revisited<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the psalm becomes clearer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPraise G-d, all you peoples; extol Him, all you nations;<br>for His kindness has been mighty over us\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, kindness is shown \u201cover us\u201d (Yom Kippur),<br>then it flows outward to the nations (Sukkot).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the psalm lists it in reverse \u2014 first the nations, then the kindness. That means there\u2019s something even deeper coming afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Shemini Atzeret \u2013 The Eighth Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After Sukkot comes <strong>Shemin\u00ed Atzeret<\/strong> \u2014 literally \u201cthe Eighth Day of Assembly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Midrash gives a parable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A king (G-d) made a seven-day feast for all his servants (the nations).  When it ended, he said to his son (the Jewish people):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStay with me one more day; it\u2019s hard for me to see you go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s Shemini Atzeret \u2014 a private, intimate celebration between G-d and Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, as the Rebbe explains, even though the other nations aren\u2019t \u201cat the table,\u201d <strong>they still receive blessing<\/strong> from that intimacy. The overflowing joy radiates to the entire world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Two Kinds of Refinement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Psalm 117 uses two words:<br><strong>Goyim (peoples)<\/strong> y <strong>Le\u2019umim (nations).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These refer to two levels of spiritual refinement among the nations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Peoples (goyim):<\/strong> the good within them is elevated, the evil disappears.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nations (le\u2019umim):<\/strong> even the negative aspects can be transformed for good \u2014 though at a lower, subordinate level.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>So Sukkot refines <em>todo<\/em> \u2014 both the light and the dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Truth of G-d \u201cLe-Olam\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The final verse says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd the truth of G-d is eternal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Hebrew, \u201cle-olam\u201d can also mean \u201c<strong>to the world<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means the truth of G-d becomes visible <em>within the world itself<\/em> \u2014 in every creature, every moment, every thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the highest level of refinement: not just removing the negative, but recognizing that <strong>everything exists because of G-d\u2019s word<\/strong> \u2014 His truth within creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lo que esto significa para nosotros<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For both Jews and non-Jews, the message is the same:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Every human being can feel joy in their connection with G-d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jews connect<\/strong> to G-d through observing the <strong>613 mandamientos<\/strong>,<br>y <strong>no jud\u00edos<\/strong> through keeping the <strong>Seven Universal Laws<\/strong> and their <strong>ramifications<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there is something that\u2019s a <strong>game changer<\/strong> \u2014<br>something that elevates these observances and takes them to the next level: <strong>awareness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you serve G-d with the consciousness that <em>I am part of His plan<\/em>,<br>eso <em>He loves me, listens to me, and desires my closeness<\/em>,<br>your actions are transformed with deeper meaning and genuine joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That joy \u2014 your joy, our joy \u2014<br>ultimately unites <strong>the entire world<\/strong> in His truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe truth of G-d is for the world.
