Un jour, le Sfat Emet veilla presque toute la nuit \u00e0 \u00e9tudier la Torah, jusqu&#039;\u00e0 s&#039;endormir au petit matin. \u00c0 son r\u00e9veil, il constata qu&#039;il \u00e9tait en retard de quelques minutes pour le cours donn\u00e9 par le Chiddushei Harim. Ce dernier, ignorant que son petit-fils avait veill\u00e9 toute la nuit, le r\u00e9primanda s\u00e9v\u00e8rement, pr\u00e9sumant que son retard \u00e9tait d\u00fb \u00e0 la paresse. Au lieu de se d\u00e9fendre, le Sfat Emet \u00e9couta en silence la r\u00e9primande. Plus tard, son ami lui demanda pourquoi il n&#039;avait pas r\u00e9pondu \u00e0 la critique du Chiddushei Harim, s&#039;\u00e9pargnant ainsi la r\u00e9primande. (1) Le Sfat Emet r\u00e9pondit : \u201c Comment pourrais-je g\u00e2cher l&#039;occasion d&#039;\u00eatre r\u00e9primand\u00e9 par mon grand-p\u00e8re ! \u201d Il a fond\u00e9 ce raisonnement sur un incident de la portion de la Torah de Mattot.(2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les tribus de Gad et de Ruben s&#039;adress\u00e8rent \u00e0 Mo\u00efse, lui demandant la permission de rester de l&#039;autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 du Jourdain, o\u00f9 elles disposaient de suffisamment de terres pour \u00e9lever leurs troupeaux. Mo\u00efse leur r\u00e9pondit par une s\u00e9v\u00e8re r\u00e9primande, leur reprochant notamment qu&#039;en refusant d&#039;entrer en Terre d&#039;Isra\u00ebl, ils abandonneraient leurs fr\u00e8res dans la conqu\u00eate imminente. Dans un long passage, Mo\u00efse leur rappela d&#039;un ton mena\u00e7ant l&#039;\u00e9pisode des espions et ses terribles cons\u00e9quences. En r\u00e9ponse aux critiques de Mo\u00efse, ils affirm\u00e8rent qu&#039;ils se joindraient au reste de la nation pour conqu\u00e9rir le pays. Le Sfat Emet fit remarquer qu&#039;en r\u00e9alit\u00e9, ils avaient eu l&#039;intention de participer \u00e0 la conqu\u00eate d\u00e8s le d\u00e9but, mais que Mo\u00efse n&#039;avait pas compris cela et les avait donc r\u00e9primand\u00e9s pour leur refus de se joindre \u00e0 leurs fr\u00e8res. D\u00e8s lors, pourquoi ne l&#039;avaient-ils pas interrompu d\u00e8s le d\u00e9but de sa condamnation, au lieu de subir une r\u00e9primande aussi s\u00e9v\u00e8re\u00a0? Les Sfat Emet expliqu\u00e8rent qu&#039;ils souhaitaient entendre la r\u00e9primande d&#039;un grand homme et qu&#039;ils \u00e9taient donc heureux d&#039;\u00e9couter ses critiques, m\u00eame s&#039;ils auraient pu les r\u00e9futer ais\u00e9ment d&#039;embl\u00e9e. De m\u00eame, bien qu&#039;il e\u00fbt pu att\u00e9nuer la r\u00e9primande de son grand-p\u00e8re en justifiant son retard, il pr\u00e9f\u00e9ra entendre celle d&#039;un grand homme.&nbsp;<em>tsaddik&nbsp;<\/em>(homme juste).(3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quelle \u00e9tait la grande qualit\u00e9, dans le fait d&#039;\u00eatre r\u00e9primand\u00e9 par un grand homme, qui justifiait une telle r\u00e9primande de la part des tribus de Gad et de Ruben\u00a0? La Guemara, dans le trait\u00e9 Taanit, nous apprend que les mal\u00e9dictions prof\u00e9r\u00e9es par le proph\u00e8te Achiya HaShiloni contre le peuple juif \u00e9taient plus graves que les b\u00e9n\u00e9dictions accord\u00e9es par Balaam (4). La Guemara fonde cette id\u00e9e sur un verset des Proverbes\u00a0: \u201c\u00a0Les coups d&#039;un \u00eatre cher sont s\u00fbrs, et les baisers d&#039;un ennemi sont nuisibles\u00a0\u201d (5). Les commentateurs expliquent que les \u2018\u00a0coups\u00a0\u2019 inflig\u00e9s par l&#039;\u00eatre aim\u00e9 d\u00e9signent ici les paroles de r\u00e9primande. La r\u00e9primande d&#039;une personne sinc\u00e8rement bienveillante est tr\u00e8s b\u00e9n\u00e9fique, car elle vise \u00e0 aider son ami \u00e0 s&#039;am\u00e9liorer. C&#039;est une grande bont\u00e9, car elle contribue \u00e0 l&#039;\u00e9l\u00e9vation spirituelle. Lorsque les tribus de Gad et de Ruben entendirent Mo\u00efse les r\u00e9primander, elles surent que ses intentions \u00e9taient pures et qu&#039;il n&#039;avait \u00e0 c\u0153ur que leur bien-\u00eatre. Ainsi, m\u00eame s&#039;ils auraient pu se d\u00e9fendre, il \u00e9tait plus judicieux d&#039;\u00e9couter ses paroles et d&#039;essayer d&#039;en tirer des le\u00e7ons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jusqu&#039;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, nous avons vu comment la r\u00e9primande d&#039;un&nbsp;<em>tsaddik&nbsp;<\/em>Bien que la r\u00e9primande soit pr\u00e9cieuse, il semble que m\u00eame celle adress\u00e9e \u00e0 une personne moins vertueuse puisse s&#039;av\u00e9rer tr\u00e8s b\u00e9n\u00e9fique. De plus, m\u00eame une r\u00e9primande maladroite peut n\u00e9anmoins \u00eatre d&#039;un grand secours. Le Sefer HaChinuch explique que l&#039;interdiction de se venger repose sur le principe que tout ce qui arrive \u00e0 une personne est voulu par Dieu. M\u00eame si quelqu&#039;un a agi n\u00e9gativement envers une autre personne, il est vain de nourrir de la rancune ou de se venger, car la souffrance caus\u00e9e n&#039;aurait pas eu lieu si Dieu l&#039;avait voulu (6). Ainsi, lorsqu&#039;une personne est r\u00e9primand\u00e9e d&#039;une mani\u00e8re qu&#039;elle per\u00e7oit comme blessante, il est hautement louable qu&#039;elle ignore les d\u00e9fauts de celui qui la r\u00e9primande, se concentre sur ses paroles et accepte la r\u00e9primande. Souvent, la r\u00e9primande contient une part de v\u00e9rit\u00e9, prouvant qu&#039;elle \u00e9mane de Dieu pour l&#039;inciter \u00e0 s&#039;am\u00e9liorer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le roi Salomon exprime une id\u00e9e similaire dans les Proverbes : \u201c<strong>Entendre&nbsp;<\/strong>conseils et&nbsp;<strong>accepter&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0Reprenez-vous afin que vous deveniez sages \u00e0 la fin de vos jours.\u00a0\u2018 (7) Il est int\u00e9ressant de noter qu\u2019en mati\u00e8re de conseils, il nous est dit d\u2019\u2018\u00a0\u00e9couter\u00a0\u2019, tandis qu\u2019en mati\u00e8re de r\u00e9primande, nous devrions \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019accepter\u00a0\u00bb. \u00c9couter implique une part de contemplation et de r\u00e9flexion (8)\u00a0; lorsqu\u2019une personne re\u00e7oit un conseil, elle doit y r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir avant d\u2019agir. En revanche, lorsqu\u2019on est r\u00e9primand\u00e9, il faut accepter la r\u00e9primande sans en analyser la validit\u00e9, mais plut\u00f4t la consid\u00e9rer comme un message de Dieu nous invitant \u00e0 nous am\u00e9liorer et \u00e0 agir en cons\u00e9quence. Le rabbin Moshe Feinstein excellait dans sa r\u00e9action face \u00e0 une r\u00e9primande inappropri\u00e9e. Un jour, il r\u00e9pondit au t\u00e9l\u00e9phone et se retrouva face \u00e0 un flot de critiques de la part d\u2019une personne furieuse contre l\u2019une de ses d\u00e9cisions. Il \u00e9couta patiemment la tirade jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fin, sans m\u00eame chercher \u00e0 se d\u00e9fendre. Un \u00e9tudiant, choqu\u00e9, lui demanda pourquoi il ne r\u00e9pondait pas \u00e0 une r\u00e9primande aussi d\u00e9plac\u00e9e. Il r\u00e9pondit qu\u2019il recevait si rarement des r\u00e9primandes qu\u2019il \u00e9tait reconnaissant d\u2019avoir l\u2019occasion d\u2019entendre des paroles aussi fortes \u2013 et m\u00eame si, dans ce domaine pr\u00e9cis, La r\u00e9primande \u00e9tait infond\u00e9e, il doit y avoir un autre domaine dans lequel il pourrait s&#039;am\u00e9liorer et il devrait utiliser la r\u00e9primande pour s&#039;am\u00e9liorer dans ce domaine !(9)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c0 une autre occasion, Rav Feinstein fut r\u00e9primand\u00e9 pour une transgression per\u00e7ue. Il r\u00e9pondit \u00e0 cette r\u00e9primande dans une d\u00e9cision que l&#039;on trouve dans Igrot Moshe (10). Il commence ainsi : \u00ab J&#039;\u00e9tais tr\u00e8s heureux que Votre Honneur ait \u00e9t\u00e9 si z\u00e9l\u00e9 \u00e0 accomplir la mitsva de la r\u00e9primande selon sa compr\u00e9hension, et Dieu m&#039;en pr\u00e9serve, que je sois contrari\u00e9 par cela\u2026 \u00bb&nbsp;<em>bli neder<\/em>&nbsp;Je ne voyagerai plus en voiture pendant l&#039;allumage des bougies (11), m\u00eame s&#039;il n&#039;y a absolument aucune interdiction \u00e0 ce sujet, et m\u00eame pas de texte officiel.&nbsp;<em>maarit ayin<\/em>.(12) Apr\u00e8s avoir compl\u00e8tement r\u00e9fut\u00e9 les arguments du r\u00e9primandeur, il termine en disant : \u201d de la part de son bien-aim\u00e9 qui le b\u00e9nit du m\u00e9rite de la mitsva de r\u00e9primande qu\u2019il a accomplie pour l\u2019honneur de Dieu et pour l\u2019honneur du Saint Shabbat\u2026 \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il est compr\u00e9hensible que la plupart des gens ne soient pas au m\u00eame niveau que le rabbin Feinstein et n&#039;appr\u00e9cient gu\u00e8re les r\u00e9primandes\u00a0; il est d\u00e9sagr\u00e9able de se faire dire qu&#039;on a un d\u00e9faut de caract\u00e8re ou qu&#039;on a agi de mani\u00e8re inappropri\u00e9e. Cependant, si une personne parvient \u00e0 d\u00e9passer la douleur ressentie et s&#039;efforce de tirer des le\u00e7ons de la r\u00e9primande, elle peut la transformer en un formidable outil de croissance et s&#039;en servir pour mieux servir Dieu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Par le rabbin Yehonasan Gefen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><small>1. On peut se demander comment les Chiddushei Harim ont pu r\u00e9primander leur petit-fils devant d&#039;autres personnes \u2013 le Rambam explique qu&#039;il existe des occasions o\u00f9 il est permis de r\u00e9primander des personnes en public, sa preuve \u00e9tant que les Nevi&#039;im r\u00e9primandaient constamment des individus en public.<\/small><br><small>2.
