Apr\u00e8s sa grande victoire sur les quatre rois, Dieu dit \u00e0 Abraham : \u201c N&#039;aie pas peur, Abram\u2026 ta r\u00e9compense est immense. \u201d Rachi, un commentateur \u00e9minent, interpr\u00e8te cela ainsi : Abraham craignait d&#039;avoir d\u00e9j\u00e0 re\u00e7u sa r\u00e9compense pour sa droiture. Pour le rassurer, Dieu lui dit : \u201c Pourquoi t&#039;inqui\u00e9ter de recevoir ta r\u00e9compense ? Elle est immense. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il est clair qu&#039;Abraham a servi son Cr\u00e9ateur enti\u00e8rement par amour, pour le salut du ciel. Ma\u00efmonide d\u00e9finit ce que signifie servir par amour\u00a0: \u2018\u00a0On s&#039;engage dans la Torah et les commandements\u2026 non pour h\u00e9riter du bien, mais pour pratiquer la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 parce qu&#039;elle est vraie.\u00a0\u2019 Il ajoute que c&#039;\u00e9tait l\u00e0 \u201c\u00a0la vertu de notre p\u00e8re Abraham\u2026 qu&#039;il ait servi uniquement par amour\u00a0\u201d. D\u00e8s lors, la question se pose \u00e0 nouveau\u00a0: comment se fait-il qu&#039;Abraham ait \u00e9t\u00e9 si pr\u00e9occup\u00e9 par sa r\u00e9compense que Dieu ait ressenti le besoin de le rassurer \u00e0 ce sujet\u00a0?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La r\u00e9ponse est que, pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment parce qu&#039;Abraham se consid\u00e9rait comme poussi\u00e8re et cendre, il ne se voyait pas comme un \u00eatre personnel, mais comme un instrument entre les mains de Dieu, dont le seul but \u00e9tait de glorifier le nom divin. Son nom et son honneur n&#039;\u00e9taient pas per\u00e7us comme personnels ou \u00e9go\u00efstes, mais comme faisant partie de la gloire c\u00e9leste. Toute son aspiration \u00e9tait d&#039;amener les hommes \u00e0 reconna\u00eetre le Cr\u00e9ateur du monde. C&#039;est pourquoi sa grandeur parmi les hommes, \u00e0 son tour, magnifiait la gloire c\u00e9leste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cela explique aussi le souci d&#039;Abraham pour sa r\u00e9compense. M\u00eame la r\u00e9compense qui lui fut accord\u00e9e pour avoir servi son Cr\u00e9ateur n&#039;\u00e9tait pas per\u00e7ue comme un gain personnel, mais comme la manifestation que servir Dieu est une bonne chose, source de b\u00e9n\u00e9dictions et d&#039;honneur. Il d\u00e9sirait recevoir une r\u00e9compense afin que les gens voient de leurs propres yeux que la foi en Dieu est le vrai chemin et que Dieu r\u00e9compense ceux qui croient en Lui et Le servent. Abraham ne se souciait pas de lui-m\u00eame, mais de la gloire du Ciel. C&#039;est pourquoi Dieu lui dit : \u201c N&#039;aie pas peur\u2026 ta r\u00e9compense est tr\u00e8s grande. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abraham v\u00e9cut avant le don de la Torah et \u00e9tait donc un Noachide. Cela donne \u00e0 chacun la force spirituelle d&#039;observer les commandements divins pour la gloire du Ciel, et une belle r\u00e9compense en d\u00e9coulera. Certes, le corps physique recherche la r\u00e9compense pour des raisons personnelles et \u00e9go\u00efstes, mais derri\u00e8re cela se cache le d\u00e9sir de l&#039;\u00e2me de voir le nom du Cr\u00e9ateur sanctifi\u00e9 dans le monde.
