Dieu lui r\u00e9pondit que son fid\u00e8le disciple, Josu\u00e9, \u00e9tait le choix id\u00e9al. Le Midrash d\u00e9veloppe le dialogue qui eut lieu entre Dieu et Mo\u00efse. Il rapporte que Mo\u00efse demanda que ses propres fils lui succ\u00e8dent comme chefs, mais Dieu refusa cette requ\u00eate, car \u2019 tes fils se sont assis et n&#039;ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9\u2026 \u201c&nbsp;<em>osek beTorah<\/em>\u201d(1) (absorb\u00e9 dans l&#039;\u00e9tude de la Torah), tandis que Josu\u00e9 \u00e9tait le successeur l\u00e9gitime car \u201c il arrivait t\u00f4t et partait tard de votre&nbsp;<em>beit medrash<\/em>&nbsp;(salle d&#039;\u00e9tude), et il disposait les bancs et recouvrait les tables. (2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce Midrash pr\u00e9sente deux difficult\u00e9s\u00a0: premi\u00e8rement, si les fils de Mo\u00efse n\u2019\u00e9taient pas&nbsp;<em>osek b&#039;Torah&nbsp;<\/em>Comment Mo\u00efse aurait-il pu alors esp\u00e9rer qu&#039;ils puissent diriger le peuple juif\u00a0? (3) Deuxi\u00e8mement, il semblerait que Dieu comparait les fils de Mo\u00efse \u00e0 Josu\u00e9 sur le m\u00eame point\u00a0: leur capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre&nbsp;<em>osek b&#039;Torah<\/em>. Cependant, lorsque Dieu a fait l&#039;\u00e9loge de Josu\u00e9, il a soulign\u00e9 le fait qu&#039;il avait \u00e9tabli le&nbsp;<em>beit medrash<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 cela ne semble pas avoir le moindre rapport avec le fait d&#039;\u00eatre&nbsp;<em>osek b&#039;Torah<\/em>. En quoi consistait exactement la comparaison entre les fils de Mo\u00efse et Josu\u00e9 ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le rabbin Yosef Shalom Elyashiv explique que les fils de Mo\u00efse \u00e9taient effectivement des \u00e9rudits de la Torah et qu&#039;ils \u00e9taient suffisamment instruits pour diriger le peuple juif \u2013 c&#039;est pourquoi Mo\u00efse les consid\u00e9rait comme des candidats aptes \u00e0 lui succ\u00e9der. Cependant, Dieu r\u00e9pondit que cela n&#039;\u00e9tait pas suffisant ; lorsqu&#039;Il dit qu&#039;ils \u201c s&#039;assirent et ne furent pas\u2026 \u2018<em>osek b&#039;Torah<\/em>\u2018 Il voulait dire qu&#039;ils s&#039;asseyaient et apprenaient par eux-m\u00eames et n&#039;\u00e9taient pas\u2026 \u201d<em>osek<\/em>\u2018 (occup\u00e9s) avec les autres dans l&#039;\u00e9tude de la Torah. Contrairement \u00e0 leur manque d&#039;implication dans l&#039;aide apport\u00e9e aux autres pour l&#039;\u00e9tude de la Torah, Josu\u00e9 mettait en place la salle d&#039;\u00e9tude et permettait ainsi aux autres d&#039;\u00e9tudier la Torah \u2013 ce qui est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme \u00e9tant \u2018<em>osek b&#039;Torah<\/em>\u2018&#039;. (4)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On peut tirer plusieurs le\u00e7ons importantes de l&#039;explication du Rav Elyashiv (5), cependant, il semble y avoir une difficult\u00e9 particuli\u00e8re\u00a0: il semblerait que\u2026&nbsp;<em>osek b&#039;Torah<\/em>&nbsp;Cela implique seulement l&#039;apprentissage de la Torah pour soi-m\u00eame, o\u00f9 est l&#039;allusion \u00e0 permettre aux autres d&#039;apprendre la Torah ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette question, il est n\u00e9cessaire de comprendre la d\u00e9finition de base de la mitsva de&nbsp;<em>Talmud Torah<\/em>&nbsp;(l&#039;\u00e9tude de la Torah). Ma\u00efmonide \u00e9crit qu&#039;il existe deux sources pour cette mitsva\u00a0: \u201c\u00a0Tu les enseigneras \u00e0 tes enfants\u00a0\u201d et \u201c\u00a0Tu les enseigneras avec rigueur \u00e0 tes enfants\u00a0\u201d. De ces commandements d&#039;enseigner aux enfants, Ma\u00efmonide d\u00e9duit qu&#039;une personne doit \u00e9tudier la Torah \u2013 la raison fondamentale donn\u00e9e pour \u00e9tudier la Torah \u00e9tant de pouvoir l&#039;enseigner \u00e0 ses enfants. Nous voyons donc que la mitsva du \u2018\u00a0Talmud Torah\u00a0\u2019 se rapporte autant \u00e0 l&#039;enseignement qu&#039;\u00e0 l&#039;apprentissage. De plus, Ma\u00efmonide cite la source rabbinique selon laquelle le terme \u2018\u00a0enfants\u00a0\u2019 d\u00e9signe \u00e9galement les \u00e9l\u00e8ves, et qu&#039;une partie fondamentale de la mitsva est d&#039;enseigner aux gens, m\u00eame s&#039;il ne s&#039;agit pas de ses propres enfants. (6) Ainsi, il est tout \u00e0 fait compr\u00e9hensible que Rav Elyashiv puisse traduire, \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 que\u2026\u2018<em>osek b&#039;Torah<\/em>\u2018 comme signifiant \u2018 amener les autres \u00e0 apprendre \u2019 la Torah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une autre source du concept selon lequel la \u2018 Torah \u2019 implique intrins\u00e8quement de permettre aux autres d&#039;apprendre la Torah se trouve dans la Guemara.&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sefaria.org\/Avodah_Zarah.7?lang=he-en&amp;utm_source=aish.com&amp;utm_medium=sefaria_linker\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Avoda Zara.(7)<\/a>&nbsp;La Guemara affirme que l&#039;histoire du monde est divis\u00e9e en trois p\u00e9riodes de deux mille ans\u00a0: la premi\u00e8re est appel\u00e9e les \u2018\u00a0deux mille ans de n\u00e9ant\u00a0\u2019, la seconde les \u2018\u00a0deux mille ans de Torah\u00a0\u2019. Les commentateurs expliquent que les ann\u00e9es de n\u00e9ant sont ainsi nomm\u00e9es en raison de l&#039;absence de Torah dans le monde durant cette p\u00e9riode, tandis que les ann\u00e9es de Torah marquent le d\u00e9but de la pr\u00e9sence de la Torah dans le monde. La Guemara pr\u00e9cise que les ann\u00e9es de Torah ont commenc\u00e9 au moment o\u00f9 Abraham a entrepris d&#039;enseigner la Torah au monde, symbolis\u00e9 par les \u2018\u00a0\u00e2mes qu&#039;ils cr\u00e9\u00e8rent \u00e0 Charan\u00a0\u2019. Cependant, il est difficile d&#039;affirmer que les ann\u00e9es de Torah ont d\u00e9but\u00e9 uniquement \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0. Il est clair que de grandes figures ont v\u00e9cu avant Abraham et ont \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la Torah (8), et pourtant elles ont v\u00e9cu \u00e0 une \u00e9poque d\u00e9crite comme d\u00e9pourvue de Torah. De plus, Abraham lui-m\u00eame a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la Torah bien avant de commencer \u00e0 l&#039;enseigner aux autres \u2013 l&#039;\u00e8re de la Torah ne commence qu&#039;avec les \u2018 \u00e2mes qu&#039;ils (9) ont cr\u00e9\u00e9es \u00e0 Charan \u2019 (10). Pourquoi en est-il ainsi\u00a0? Rav Zev Leff explique qu&#039;Abraham a fait plus que ses illustres pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseurs\u00a0: il a enseign\u00e9 la Torah. L&#039;\u00e8re de la Torah ne commence que lorsque la Torah est enseign\u00e9e autant qu&#039;\u00e9tudi\u00e9e, car alors elle a la possibilit\u00e9 de se diffuser (11).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous avons vu de nombreuses sources qui montrent que l&#039;\u00e9tude et l&#039;enseignement de la Torah rel\u00e8vent de la m\u00eame cat\u00e9gorie. Il reste cependant \u00e0 expliquer pourquoi l&#039;enseignement de la Torah est si fondamental dans la pens\u00e9e juive. Le Ben Ish Ha\u00ef nous offre une compr\u00e9hension plus approfondie de cette question. Il cite la Guemara dans le Sanh\u00e9drin (12), qui mentionne le verset de Shelach affirmant que celui qui sert d&#039;autres dieux \u201c\u00a0d\u00e9grade la parole de Dieu\u00a0\u201d (13). La Guemara d\u00e9crit ensuite d&#039;autres comportements qui m\u00e9ritent cette condamnation s\u00e9v\u00e8re (14). De fa\u00e7on surprenante, elle ajoute que le verset inclut \u00e9galement \u201c\u00a0celui qui \u00e9tudie sans enseigner\u00a0\u201d. Le Ben Ish Ha\u00ef s&#039;interroge alors sur la s\u00e9v\u00e9rit\u00e9 avec laquelle la Guemara s&#039;adresse \u00e0 celui qui \u00e9tudie sans enseigner. Il explique que la Torah est \u00e9ternelle et que cette nature \u00e9ternelle est pr\u00e9serv\u00e9e par la transmission de ses enseignements \u00e0 la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration suivante. Cependant, il \u00e9crit que \u201c celui qui apprend mais ne se donne pas la peine d\u2019enseigner \u00e0 son prochain porte atteinte \u00e0 la nature \u00e9ternelle de la Torah, car la Torah qu\u2019il apprend ne peut \u00eatre transmise \u00e0 la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration suivante\u2026 c\u2019est pourquoi on comprend pourquoi les rabbins d\u00e9crivent cet homme d\u2019une mani\u00e8re si s\u00e9v\u00e8re \u2013 parce qu\u2019il emp\u00eache la cha\u00eene de transmission de la Torah de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration en g\u00e9n\u00e9ration et annule le caract\u00e8re \u00e9ternel de la Torah. \u201d (15)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cela nous aide \u00e9galement \u00e0 comprendre pourquoi il \u00e9tait important que le chef du peuple juif soit celui qui incite les autres \u00e0 \u00e9tudier la Torah \u2013 son r\u00f4le \u00e9tait de pr\u00e9server et de perp\u00e9tuer la Transmission et, par l\u00e0 m\u00eame, de pr\u00e9server le caract\u00e8re \u00e9ternel de la Torah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous avons constat\u00e9 combien l&#039;enseignement de la Torah est intrins\u00e8quement li\u00e9 \u00e0 la mitsva d&#039;\u00e9tudier la Torah. De plus, si enseigner la Torah est un acte de grande bienveillance envers autrui, il est \u00e9galement \u00e9vident que cet enseignement comporte une dimension tr\u00e8s importante de d\u00e9veloppement personnel\u00a0: il contribue \u00e0 approfondir notre compr\u00e9hension du caract\u00e8re \u00e9ternel de la Torah et nous permet de participer \u00e0 sa transmission aux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Par le rabbin Yehonasan Gefen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><small>1. On pourrait objecter qu&#039;Abraham n&#039;a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier \u00e0 enseigner la Torah \u2013 Sem et Ever avaient des yeshivas o\u00f9 ils formaient des \u00e9l\u00e8ves. La diff\u00e9rence r\u00e9side dans le fait qu&#039;Abraham enseignait la Torah \u00e0 ceux qui, autrement, n&#039;avaient aucun d\u00e9sir de l&#039;apprendre, tandis que Sem et Ever attendaient que ceux qui souhaitaient apprendre viennent \u00e0 eux \u2013 voir Ma\u00efmonide, Hilkhot Avoda Zara, chapitre 1, Halakha 3, avec Raavad et Kesef Misha, qui d\u00e9veloppent la diff\u00e9rence qualitative entre l&#039;enseignement d&#039;Abraham et celui de Sem et Ever.
