Here, we share some key ideas and practical lessons on how we can use our speech in daily life to build rather than break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Walking in the Spirit of Abraham: Faith, Wealth, and Sedaka<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just pause for a moment and consider this sentence: <em>\u201cLeave your land, your birthplace, your father\u2019s house, and go.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No details. No map. Just a voice. Imagine the kind of person who would answer such a call. And then think of the kind of faith it takes to turn down wealth after winning a war. Modern logic might see it as a lateral move\u2014a sideways step\u2014but the Torah calls it something deeper: <em>Go to yourself.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faith begins where certainty ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Faith vs. Modern Success<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Philosopher Stephen Hicks often says that philosophy shapes how we define success. Modern culture equates success with possession: the more you control, the freer you are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here\u2019s the paradox: the father of faith becomes the father of nations not through owning, but by releasing. Abraham\u2019s greatness wasn\u2019t in intellect, conquest, or ambition. It was in faith\u2014<em>amuna<\/em>. Genesis 15:6 tells us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe believed in the Lord, and He counted it to him as righteousness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le mot h\u00e9breu <em>sedaka<\/em> can be translated as righteousness or justice. Abraham\u2019s faith was a moral vision and trust in goodness even when the evidence wasn\u2019t yet visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Tests of Abraham: Faith and Wealth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Abraham\u2019s journey offers two critical tests:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Test of Faith:<\/strong> Acting without knowing the outcome, trusting that the universe is governed by goodness. From returning a lost wallet to stepping into the sea before it parts, faith manifests in many magnitudes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Test of Wealth:<\/strong> After defeating four kings, Abraham is offered immense riches by the king of Sodom. He refuses, saying:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will not take even a thread or a shoelace from you, lest you say, \u2018I have made Abraham rich.\u2019\u201d (Genesis 14:23)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, Abraham recognizes that wealth isn\u2019t earned\u2014it\u2019s entrusted by God. Ownership, he realizes, is a burden; stewardship is freedom. Wealth becomes a tool for responsibility, not control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sedaka: Justice, Not Charity<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many translate <em>sedaka<\/em> as charity, but it is more profound. Charity comes from the heart; <em>sedaka<\/em> comes from justice. It is an obligation to balance the scales of the world, ensuring those with abundance share with those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donner <em>sedaka<\/em> doesn\u2019t decrease what we have\u2014it increases abundance. It\u2019s a radical trust in the infinite. Economics teaches scarcity, but <em>sedaka<\/em> transforms wealth from weight into flow. Abraham understood this: to give is to participate in God\u2019s abundance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Faith and Generosity as One<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Faith without generosity becomes abstraction; generosity without faith becomes anxiety. Abraham united these ideas: to believe is to release control, and to give is to live that belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a material mindset, success equals control, and wealth creates freedom\u2014but also anxiety. In a faith mindset, trust creates freedom. Abraham saw that all comes from the possessor of heaven and earth, and he gave accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of wealth like water: hoarded, it stagnates; released, it irrigates. <em>Sedaka<\/em> turns resources from weight into life-giving flow. Faith and righteousness are not two separate acts\u2014they are one lived experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Living in Abraham\u2019s Covenant<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To follow Abraham is to walk into the unknown without taking what isn\u2019t ours.
