Based on Likutei Sichot, vol. 35, p. 94<br><br>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Dual Responsibility in the Rambam<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u05d1 <em>\u05d4\u05dc\u05db\u05d5\u05ea \u05de\u05dc\u05db\u05d9\u05dd<\/em> (Laws of Kings), the Rambam defines Israel\u2019s role toward the rest of humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moshe Rabbeinu gave the Torah and mitzvot <strong>as an inheritance to Israel alone<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cThe Torah is the inheritance of the congregation of Yaakov\u201d<\/em> (Deut. 33:4).<br>Others may join through conversion, but no one is forced to accept the Torah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, Moshe was <strong>commanded by G-d to compel all the inhabitants of the world<\/strong> to observe the <strong>\u05e9\u05d1\u05e2 \u05de\u05e6\u05d5\u05d5\u05ea \u05d1\u05e0\u05d9 \u05e0\u05d7<\/strong>, the universal moral code for all humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone who fulfills these laws <strong>because G-d commanded them through Moshe<\/strong> is called one of <em>\u201cthe pious among the nations\u201d<\/em> \u05d5\u05e8\u05d0\u05d5\u05d9 \u05dc\u05d7\u05dc\u05e7 \u05d1\u05e2\u05d5\u05dc\u05dd \u05d4\u05d1\u05d0.<br>But if they follow them only out of human logic, without recognizing their Divine source, they do not have that same spiritual status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, these two halachot express the Jewish people\u2019s dual task: to <strong>teach<\/strong> and to <strong>inspire<\/strong> the nations of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Essence of Creation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rebbe explains that this idea is rooted in creation itself.<br>The world was created <strong>for two essential purposes<\/strong> \u2014 for <strong>\u05ea\u05d5\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d4<\/strong> and for <strong>\u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05c2\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc<\/strong>.<br>These are not separate from creation; they define it. Every Divine instruction to the world flows through the Jewish people, whose role is to channel G-d\u2019s purpose into reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The moral guidance of the Torah therefore reaches humanity <strong>through Israel\u2019s influence<\/strong>. The Jewish mission is not only self-perfection but also the spiritual elevation of all mankind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Two Modes of Influence<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From the Rambam\u2019s language, the Rebbe derives two forms of influence:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Direct Influence<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cCompel all the inhabitants of the world.\u201d<\/em><br>This means active teaching and guidance through words and action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Indirect Influence<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cThe pious among the nations\u2026\u201d<\/em><br>Here, others are inspired by witnessing the holiness and clarity of the Jewish people and come to recognize G-d\u2019s truth on their own.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Both are essential: one expresses <strong>Israel\u2019s active responsibility<\/strong>, the other reflects <strong>Israel\u2019s inner light<\/strong> that naturally radiates to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Messianic Vision<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rambam describes how these two types of influence will culminate in the era of Mashiach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u05d1 <em>\u05d4\u05dc\u05db\u05d5\u05ea \u05de\u05dc\u05db\u05d9\u05dd<\/em> 11:4, he writes that the Messianic king will <em>\u201crepair the entire world, motivating all nations to serve G-d together.\u201d<\/em><br>This represents the <strong>active<\/strong> phase of guidance and transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, in 12:5, he describes the <strong>ultimate<\/strong> phase:<br><em>\u201cThe occupation of the entire world will be solely to know G-d\u2026 The world will be filled with the knowledge of G-d as the waters cover the sea.\u201d<\/em><br>At that stage, awareness of G-d will spread effortlessly; goodness will become the world\u2019s natural state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Avraham and Sarah: The Roots of Universal Impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This mission began with Avraham and Sarah, founders of the Jewish people.<br>Before Yitzchak\u2019s birth, their names changed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Avram<\/strong> (\u201cfather of Aram\u201d) became <strong>\u05d0\u05d1\u05e8\u05d4\u05dd<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cfather of many nations.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u05e9\u05e8\u05d9\u05d9<\/strong> (\u201cmy princess\u201d) became <strong>\u05e9\u05e8\u05d4<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cprincess for all.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Their transformation marked the beginning of a people whose holiness was meant to uplift all humanity.<br>Midrash tells that Sarah nursed many children, spreading blessing beyond her own family; and Avraham\u2019s later descendants with Keturah symbolized this wider influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From its very inception, the Jewish nation was created to be a <strong>source of Divine light for the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our Mission Today<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This calling continues today.<br>Teaching the Noahide Laws and inspiring ethical living are not secondary projects \u2014 they express the Jewish people\u2019s very essence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through learning, kindness, and example, we fulfill our timeless role: to reveal the Divine purpose within creation and prepare the world for the time when <em>\u201call humanity will know G-d and serve Him together.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(This article is a concise summary of Rabbi S\u2019s class on Likutei Sichot vol. 35, p. 94.
