Il versetto di apertura della Torah \u00e8 "In principio Dio cre\u00f2 i cieli e la terra" (Genesi 1:1), e mostra il profondo legame tra il popolo ebraico e la Terra d'Israele, sottolineando che questo \u00e8 legato alla fede nel Creatore. La Torah \u00e8 principalmente un libro di istruzioni per il popolo ebraico. Logicamente, avrebbe dovuto aprirsi con il primo comandamento dato loro: santificare il nuovo mese. Rashi nel suo commento solleva proprio questa domanda e ne fornisce la risposta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Torah inizia con la storia della Creazione per fornire una risposta decisiva alle nazioni del mondo che un giorno potrebbero affermare con gli ebrei: "Siete dei ladri! Avete conquistato illegalmente la terra delle sette nazioni". La risposta ebraica, basata sull'inizio della Torah, \u00e8: L'intera terra appartiene al Santo, Benedetto Egli sia. Egli l'ha creata e l'ha data a chi ha ritenuto opportuno. Per Sua volont\u00e0, l'ha data a noi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Una volta che al popolo ebraico fu data la Terra d'Israele, questa fu elevata a uno status spirituale unico dal quale non potr\u00e0 mai pi\u00f9 separarsi. La Terra d'Israele \u00e8 fondamentalmente diversa da tutte le altre terre. La necessit\u00e0 di aprire la Torah con il racconto della Creazione sottolinea una verit\u00e0 fondamentale, vitale sia per gli ebrei che per i Bnei Noah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le parole iniziali, "In principio Dio cre\u00f2 i cieli e la terra", stabiliscono immediatamente che Dio \u00e8 il proprietario assoluto dell'intero universo. Non ha semplicemente avviato un processo naturale; Egli \u00e8 la fonte di tutta l'esistenza. Affermando la creazione iniziale di Dio, la Torah proibisce di attribuire qualsiasi significato o autorit\u00e0 indipendente alla "Natura" o al mondo fisico. Nulla esiste al di fuori della volont\u00e0 del Creatore. La realt\u00e0 fisica, inclusa la divisione della terra, \u00e8 interamente subordinata al comando divino.
