Giacobbe ricevette greggi malate e deboli dal suocero Labano, che tent\u00f2 ripetutamente di ingannarlo. Sebbene fosse pratica comune al loro tempo, e lo sia ancora oggi, cercare di migliorare le razze deboli incrociandole con razze pi\u00f9 robuste di specie diverse, Giacobbe non ag\u00ec in questo modo. Il divieto si applica alla mescolanza di specie diverse (come un lupo con un cane, o un cavallo con un asino), ma non alla creazione di variazioni all&#039;interno della stessa specie. Giacobbe utilizz\u00f2 una tecnica insolita per allevare greggi che avrebbero portato le caratteristiche desiderate (striate ad anelli, maculate e punteggiate), ottenendole cos\u00ec secondo l&#039;accordo stipulato con Labano. .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perch\u00e9 \u00e8 cos\u00ec cruciale preservare l&#039;integrit\u00e0 delle specie? L&#039;azione di Giacobbe consistette nel modificare le caratteristiche cromatiche, ma non nel creare un nuovo ibrido. Cos\u00ec facendo, onor\u00f2 l&#039;ordine naturale impresso nella Creazione dal Creatore, che \u00e8 la ragione principale del divieto (Ramban). Ad esempio, non si devono ibridare specie diverse di alberi. Per esempio, un ramo di un melo non deve essere innestato su un altro albero, e viceversa. Maimonide, nel suo libro Guida dei Perplessi, spiega che la ragione del divieto di ibridazione \u00e8 quella di allontanarci dalla pratica degli idolatri, perch\u00e9 questo era il modo di fare degli idolatri, ibridare due specie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Giacobbe abbracci\u00f2 attentamente le greggi con il chiaro intento di accumulare ricchezza senza nuocere al Creato n\u00e9 violarne l&#039;ordine naturale. Il successo di Giacobbe non fu semplicemente il risultato di un&#039;astuta strategia, ma piuttosto il frutto dell&#039;aiuto divino. Il fatto che Giacobbe operasse mantenendo diligentemente la purezza della specie \u2013 in linea con l&#039;essenza morale del divieto \u2013 avrebbe dovuto limitare i suoi risultati. Invece, proprio questa osservanza costitu\u00ec la base per la grande abbondanza economica che il Creatore gli concesse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La storia di Giacobbe rafforza l&#039;idea che il successo fisico ed economico di un individuo sia legato all&#039;adesione ai principi del Creato, tra cui il mantenimento dell&#039;integrit\u00e0 della specie.
