It is recommended to watch the full lesson on YouTube, as the video contains the complete discussion, explanations, examples, and context behind these points.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sukkot has a much broader meaning than simply being one of the Jewish festivals. It has a strong connection to the nations of the world, the Temple in Jerusalem, rain, and the future described by the prophets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The prophet Isaiah speaks about a future time when the nations will come to Jerusalem and say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCome ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the L-rd, to the house of the G-d of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Temple is therefore not presented only as a place for the Jewish people. Solomon already recognized this when he prayed at the dedication of the First Temple for the foreigner who would come and pray toward the Temple. Isaiah later describes the House of G-d as a <strong>casa di preghiera per tutte le nazioni<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sukkot is particularly connected with the nations. During the seven days of the festival, seventy bulls were offered, and the Talmud in Sukkah 55b connects these seventy bulls with the seventy nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is also an important connection between Sukkot and <strong>rain<\/strong>. The Mishnah in Rosh Hashanah 1:2 teaches that on Sukkot the world is judged concerning water. This is significant because water is essential for life, agriculture, and the harvest. Human beings can work the land, plant and harvest, and develop advanced technology, but ultimately we cannot command the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This points to one of the central messages of Sukkot: <strong>human beings are dependent on G-d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sukkah itself expresses this idea. We leave our permanent homes and enter a temporary dwelling. Its roof reminds us that, despite everything we build and achieve, there is something above us. We are not completely self-sufficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is particularly relevant in a modern world in which human beings have enormous technological power. We can easily begin to think of ourselves as independent and \u201cself-made.\u201d Sukkot reminds us that there are fundamental things over which we have no control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The prophetic vision also speaks about a transformation among the nations. Isaiah describes swords being turned into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks. Instead of using human resources for destruction, they are used to cultivate and sustain life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This connects with the future vision of the Temple: the nations coming to Jerusalem to learn the ways of G-d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This does not mean that everyone becomes Jewish. Judaism also teaches a path for the nations through the Noahide commandments. The nations have their own responsibilities before G-d while maintaining a distinct relationship with Israel and the Torah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Third Temple, therefore, should not be understood merely as a future building.
