\u201cQuesto\u201d, disse Dio a No\u00e8, \u201csar\u00e0 il segno del patto che ho stabilito tra me e ogni essere vivente che \u00e8 sulla terra\u201d.\u201d <\/em>(Genesi 9:17)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Nella porzione della Torah di questa settimana, leggiamo della quasi totale distruzione del mondo e dei suoi abitanti da parte di Dio, e della Sua successiva promessa di non distruggere mai pi\u00f9 il mondo. Questo doveva essere un patto tra "Dio e ogni creatura vivente", dove "Dio" \u00e8 rappresentato dalla parola E-lokim, che indica l'attributo divino di \u05d2\u05d1\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4 (gevurah - giudizio severo). Dio scelse l'arcobaleno (keset) come segno di questo patto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nel versetto 12, la parola "generazioni" \u00e8 scritta in forma abbreviata, \u05d3\u05e8\u05ea invece di \u05d3\u05d5\u05e8\u05d5\u05ea, senza le vocali vav-cholem. Quando le parole bibliche sono scritte in questo modo, sono chiamate \u05d7\u05e1\u05e8, "mancanti". Rashi (loc. cit.) cita il Midrash Rabba, dove i Saggi hanno affermato che la parola \u00e8 scritta \u05d7\u05e1\u05e8 in questo caso per indicare che ci sarebbero state generazioni che non avrebbero avuto bisogno dell'arcobaleno, a causa della presenza di tzaddikim, persone completamente giuste. Le due vav corrispondono alle generazioni di Chizkiyahu HaMelech (Re Ezechia) e Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. In occasione di Lag BaOmer, l'anniversario della morte del rabbino Shimon Bar Yochai, si \u00e8 sviluppata una curiosa usanza in cui ai bambini vengono regalati archi e frecce giocattolo con cui giocare, poich\u00e9 la parola \u05e7\u05e9\u05ea significa sia "arcobaleno" che "arco".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cosa significa per una generazione non aver bisogno dell'arcobaleno? Nel versetto 14 leggiamo: "quando Io (Dio) far\u00f2 scomparire le nuvole sulla terra", che sembra riferirsi alla pioggia. Tuttavia, Rashi spiega che significa "quando sorge nella Mia Mente l'idea di portare oscurit\u00e0 e devastazione al mondo". Affinch\u00e9 i peccati dell'umanit\u00e0 e l'aberrazione della natura non raggiungano il livello di depravazione della generazione precedente al Diluvio, Dio vedr\u00e0 l'arcobaleno tra le nuvole e ricorder\u00e0 la Sua promessa di non distruggere pi\u00f9 il mondo con un Diluvio. Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrahi (c. 1455-c. 1525) scrive, nel suo supercommentario su Rashi, che gli elementi nel versetto sono in qualche modo fuori sequenza. Dio non dimentica nulla; questa idea viene menzionata a Rosh Hashanah. Piuttosto, l'arcobaleno \u00e8 per noi un segno che Dio onora la Sua promessa, nonostante la nostra colpa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nella Gemara (Menachot 36b), il suggerimento che la mitzvah ebraica di indossare i tefillin (filatteri) si applichi al sabato e alle festivit\u00e0 ebraiche viene respinto sulla base del versetto 1 "e li legherai come un segno sulla tua mano" (Deuteronomio 6:8). Il sabato \u00e8 anche definito "un segno eterno tra Me e i figli d'Israele" (Esodo 31:17). Pertanto, poich\u00e9 il sabato stesso \u00e8 un segno, non \u00e8 necessario alcun segno aggiuntivo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analogamente, la presenza di persone rette in una generazione \u00e8 sufficiente ad attenuare l'attributo divino del giudizio e a trasformarlo in compassione divina. Sembra che quando santifichiamo le nostre vite attraverso azioni rette, sia al servizio di Dio che nell'amore per l'umanit\u00e0, l'effetto sia vibrante e radioso come i meravigliosi colori dell'arcobaleno; a quel punto, l'arcobaleno non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 necessario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dobbiamo pensare globalmente e agire localmente, coltivando i semi della rettitudine dentro di noi e cercando quelle persone che, grazie alla loro santit\u00e0 e purezza, sostengono il mondo come fece No\u00e8 lo Tzaddik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
