Go, I will send you to them.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Joseph responds simply and directly: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Hineni \u2013 Here I am.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first glance, this seems like a polite response. But Joseph knew that his brothers hated him and that danger might be imminent, possibly even death. Yet he says, <em>\u201cHere I am. I will do what my father commands.\u201d<\/em> His words reflect<strong> humility, courage, and full willingness to follow G-d\u2019s path.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What the Commentators Say<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rashi<\/strong> (Genesis Rabbah 84:13) explains that <em>\u201cHineni\u201d<\/em> expresses humility and readiness: Joseph was eager to carry out his father\u2019s command, despite his brothers\u2019 hatred.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ibn Ezra<\/strong> emphasizes that Joseph took his responsibility seriously and obeyed, even when it was dangerous.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Radak<\/strong> notes that Joseph was not afraid because he trusted in G-d\u2019s providence; nothing happens outside G-d\u2019s plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chassidic commentaries<\/strong> show that what may initially appear as evil or opposition is used by G-d to fulfill a larger plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Lesson for Noahides<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For Noahides, this story carries a powerful message. Following the <strong>Seven Noahide Laws<\/strong> \u2013 the path of justice and ethics given by G-d to humanity \u2013 can sometimes involve <strong>difficult choices<\/strong>. It may mean that friends or family do not understand or even distance themselves, simply because the decisions of a Noahide differ from those around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The distinction between a Noahide and the \u201cordinary world\u201d appears in both major and minor decisions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Major decisions:<\/strong> ethical choices concerning life and death, such as rejecting euthanasia because life is sacred, or maintaining honesty and justice in complex situations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Minor everyday decisions:<\/strong> a Noahide might consciously avoid private messages during work hours, respecting the employer\u2019s time and the work for which they are being paid. To others, this may seem strict or overly conscientious, but it is a practical way to remain faithful to G-d\u2019s path and respect others\u2019 time and property.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As Joseph demonstrates, following the right path can sometimes be difficult. It may feel like swimming against the current or being trapped in systems and habits of the world that conflict with a Noahide\u2019s principles. Yet remaining faithful to G-d\u2019s guidance ultimately leads to <strong>personal growth, blessings, and the fulfillment of a higher purpose<\/strong> \u2013 contributing to a just and ethical world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Power of \u201cHere I Am\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Joseph\u2019s <em>\u201cHineni\u201d<\/em> exemplifies courage, humility, and complete willingness to follow G-d\u2019s path. For Noahides, it means that they can also act courageously and faithfully in both major and minor choices, even if it results in misunderstandings or temporary separation from friends or family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The story shows that fidelity to G-d\u2019s path helps overcome even those who may not understand or who may cause harm, through patience, love, and justice. Everything a Noahide does in accordance with G-d\u2019s laws, no matter how difficult the path, will ultimately be turned for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An Invitation for Today<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Noahides are invited to reflect on moments when they are called to act according to G-d\u2019s laws \u2013 big or small \u2013 even if it leads to separation from friends or family. By saying <em>\u201cHineni \u2013 Here I am,\u201d<\/em> they demonstrate courage and trust that everything that happens is part of a larger plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as Joseph experienced, faithfulness, courage, and love can ultimately turn everything to good.
