Hij kondigde aan dat iedereen die geld wilde lenen, naar hem toe moest komen en dat hij hen een lening zou verstrekken. Vanzelfsprekend stonden veel mensen te popelen om van zijn aanbod gebruik te maken en kwamen ze geld lenen. De rijke man had een notitieboekje waarin hij alle leningen die hij verstrekte, bijhield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Op een dag bladerde hij door zijn notitieboekje en merkte hij dat hij enorme bedragen had uitgeleend, maar dat niemand de moeite had genomen om de schuld terug te betalen. Natuurlijk was hij daar erg boos over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Onder de mensen die een lening hadden afgesloten, bevond zich een man die zijn geld was kwijtgeraakt aan een mislukte onderneming. Hij had niets meer om zijn schuld af te lossen. Het zat hem erg dwars dat hij niet kon betalen, en hij besloot dat hij op zijn minst persoonlijk naar de rijke man toe moest gaan om het hele probleem uit te leggen en te zeggen dat het niet zijn schuld was. De schuldenaar kwam naar de rijke man en begon uit te leggen hoe hij een lening van hem had gekregen, maar toen het tijd was om de schuld af te lossen, kon hij dat niet omdat hij zijn geld kwijt was, en hij had geen idee wat hij moest doen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c&#039;Wat kan mij dat schelen dat je me geld schuldig bent?&#039; antwoordde de rijke man. &#039;Wat is de betekenis van dat kleine bedrag dat je me schuldig bent, of je het nu betaalt of niet, vergeleken met de totale som van alle leningen, die in de tienduizenden loopt? Wat ik van je wil, is dat je naar al die mensen gaat die van me geleend hebben en hun geld terugvraagt. Herinner ze eraan hoeveel ze me schuldig zijn en vraag ze waarom ze niet met me afrekenen.
