Daarom gebiedt de Torah ons: &quot;Doe niet zoals het land Egypte, waar jullie gewoond hebben, dat deed...&quot;<sup>1<\/sup>\u201dRashi schrijft dat Egypte de meest moreel decadente natie was en dat met name de delen waar de Joden woonden de ergste van die landen waren. Waarom plaatste God het Joodse volk opzettelijk op de meest corrupte plek op aarde?<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rabbi Eliyahu Dessler<sup>3<\/sup>&nbsp;Hij merkt op dat een negatieve samenleving een zeer schadelijk effect op een persoon kan hebben. Als iemand echter sterk genoeg is om zich niet door de negatieve invloeden te laten raken, kan dit hem juist versterken in zijn spirituele ontwikkeling. Geconfronteerd met het kwaad om hem heen, versterkt hij zijn waardering voor het goede. Rav Dessler zegt dat dit verklaart waarom God het Joodse volk opzettelijk in de meest verdorven plaatsen op aarde heeft geplaatst. &quot;Telkens wanneer het nodig was dat een rechtvaardig persoon zich tot een zeer hoog niveau zou verheffen, werd die persoon in de meest lage en verdorven omgevingen geworpen, zodat hij daar de verdorvenheid van het kwaad kon leren kennen en zichzelf in het goede kon versterken tot het tegenovergestelde uiterste.&quot;.<sup>4<\/sup>\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God plaatste het Joodse volk opzettelijk in Egypte, zodat ze een intense haat tegen de onreinheid van het land zouden ontwikkelen. Dit was, zo schrijft hij, inderdaad hun motivatie om tot God te roepen hen uit deze vreselijke plaats te bevrijden. Deze intense walging stelde hen in staat snel op te klimmen van de 49e naar de 49e plaats.<sup>e<\/sup>&nbsp;Het niveau van onreinheid dat nodig was om de Thora te kunnen ontvangen, was aanzienlijk. Hadden ze zich in een minder immorele omgeving bevonden, dan hadden ze niet zo&#039;n hoog niveau kunnen bereiken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dit lijkt ook te verklaren waarom het Joodse volk naar een even afschuwelijk land moest trekken, namelijk Kana\u00e4n. Het zien van het zeer immorele gedrag van de Kana\u00e4nitische volken was bedoeld om hun afkeer van het kwaad te vergroten en daardoor hun waardering voor de moraal van de Torah te versterken.<sup>5<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het principe van Rabbi Dessler helpt ons enkele belangrijke aspecten van Pesach te begrijpen. We beginnen de Haggadah met een bespreking van onze voorouders die afgoden aanbaden. Rav Dessler vraagt zich af: hoe is dit verbonden met het verhaal van de uittocht uit Egypte? Hij antwoordt dat Abraham, omringd door zoveel negativiteit, tot zo&#039;n hoog niveau van heiligheid steeg dat de kracht ervan nooit tenietgedaan zou worden. De verlossing uit Egypte ontsproot rechtstreeks uit deze heiligheid. Daarom spreken we over onze afgodendienende voorouders om te benadrukken dat het juist door hun onreinheid was dat Abraham zo&#039;n ongelooflijk hoog niveau bereikte en dat zijn grootheid op zijn beurt de kiem legde voor de uittocht uit Egypte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We kunnen nu beter begrijpen waarom de Haggadah zo uitvoerig ingaat op de negatieve invloeden van onze afgodendienaars, de Egyptenaren en de Lavan. Wellicht is dit bedoeld om onze afkeer van zulke immorele mensen op te wekken en zo onze waardering voor God te vergroten, omdat Hij ons van hen heeft bevrijd en ons de Tora heeft gegeven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In de wereld van vandaag is de blootstelling aan schadelijke invloeden onvermijdelijk. Het is natuurlijk zeer aan te raden om hun invloed zoveel mogelijk te verminderen, maar desondanks is het onmogelijk om elke blootstelling eraan volledig uit te sluiten. Het principe van Rabbi Dessler kan ons helpen om met deze invloeden om te gaan en ze wellicht zelfs ten goede te gebruiken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Door Rabbijn Yehonasan Gefen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opmerkingen<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Acharei Mts, 18:3.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Het enige andere volk dat qua immoraliteit met Egypte leek te wedijveren, was Kana\u00e4n.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Michtav M&#039;Eliyahu, 1e deel, p.157-160<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ibid. p.158.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Natuurlijk hadden de Joden de vrije wil om de gebruiken van de Kana\u00e4nieten volledig te verwerpen of hen als buren te accepteren en zich daardoor negatief te laten be\u00efnvloeden.
