In de Chassidische leer wordt dit vers uitgelegd als niet alleen ontkennend voor het bestaan van een andere god, de Hemel verhoede het, maar verduidelijkend dat er helemaal geen bestaan is naast G-d. De Heilige, gezegend zij Hij, is de enige realiteit in de wereld - of het nu in de hemelen, op de aarde of in de diepten van het universum is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het onafhankelijke bestaan van de wereld en haar schepselen is een illusie, die voortkomt uit ons onvermogen om de goddelijke kracht waar te nemen die alle werkelijkheid in stand houdt. Als we de waarheid konden zien, zouden we erkennen dat alles G-d is en dat G-d alles is. De schepping heeft geen onafhankelijk bestaan omdat het ex nihilo (iets uit niets) geschapen is; dus is haar bestaan op elk moment afhankelijk van de goddelijke kracht die haar in stand houdt en vervult. Daarom is de waarheid dat \"er niets naast Hem is.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Men zou kunnen denken dat alleen de 'hemelen', de hogere spirituele creaties, de goddelijke kracht kunnen bevatten. Daarom voegt de Tora toe: \"en op de aarde beneden\" - dat zelfs de lagere, fysieke creaties ook gevuld zijn met de kracht van de Schepper. Deze verdeling bestaat ook symbolisch in het leven van elk individu: er is de 'hemel' in een mens, die de goddelijke ziel is. Er is de 'aarde', het fysieke lichaam, een direct vat voor het licht van de ziel. Maar er is ook de 'uitgestrektheid van het universum' - alle activiteiten van een persoon gedurende de dag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Zeven Noachide Wetten zijn de universele morele code voor alle mensen. De allereerste van deze wetten is het verbod op afgoderij, dat direct de erkenning van de eenheid van G-d vereist. Dit betekent dat van een Noachide wordt verwacht dat hij erkent dat \"de L-rd G-d is in de hemelen boven en op de aarde beneden; er is geen ander.\" De erkenning van de eenheid van G-d staat centraal in het spirituele fundament van de Noachide Code. Deze erkenning zal compleet zijn in het messiaanse tijdperk, als de wereld vol zal zijn van de goddelijke aanwezigheid voor de hele mensheid.
