Het Toragedeelte van deze week vertelt over het bijzondere gebod dat de Isra\u00eblieten ontvingen aan de vooravond van hun uittocht uit Egypte: Elk gezin kreeg de opdracht om op de tiende van de Joodse maand Nisan een lam mee naar huis te nemen, het vier dagen thuis te houden en het op de veertiende van Nisan te slachten voor het Pesachoffer. Het lam was een van de Egyptische afgoden. Kon de Jood zijn Egyptische buurman vertellen dat hij het lam vier dagen in huis hield om het te slachten voor een offer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het lam was een Egyptisch vals afgodsbeeld. De slachting ervan diende als demonstratie van de afkeer van afgoderij. Alle Egyptische buren kwamen langs en vroegen waarom ze het lam thuis hielden en wat ze ermee van plan waren. Het antwoord was dat het lam geslacht en geofferd zou worden. Dit was een overweldigende demonstratie van de machteloosheid van hun valse afgod, en daarmee de afschaffing van het Egyptische afgodsbeeld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Er was echter nog een ander doel met het meenemen van het lam, het Egyptische afgodsbeeld: de Joden op de proef stellen! En zien of hun geloof in God sterker was dan hun angst voor de Egyptische afgodendienaars; of ze hun God zouden volgen, zelfs wanneer het pad vol gevaar en ongemak was. En inderdaad, de Joden doorstonden de beproeving met glans. Ze voerden het bevel moedig uit en aarzelden niet om de Egyptenaren te vertellen over hun doel en intentie om het lam te slachten voor het offer. En zo zegt de Torah dat dankzij de kracht van hun geloof en hun toewijding aan het vervullen van het bevel van de Schepper, de Isra\u00eblieten uit Egypte werden verlost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In veel opzichten is er een parallel tussen die periode, aan de vooravond van de uittocht uit Egypte, en de tijd waarin we nu leven. Dus toen, net als nu, wordt van ons verwacht dat we de beproeving van het geloof in Hashem en Zijn geboden doorstaan, ter voorbereiding op de verlossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit verklaart de vele moeilijkheden in onze generatie, zowel in fysieke als in spirituele zin. God verwacht van ons dat we deze moeilijkheden het hoofd bieden en tegelijkertijd de enorme kracht ontdekken die in ons verborgen ligt. Het eerste Noachitische gebod is om geen afgoden te aanbidden. In onze generatie zijn de Zeven Noachitische Geboden de sleutel tot persoonlijke verlossing en vormen ze fundamentele morele geboden die de hele mensheid binden. Het naleven van deze wetten zal de volledige verlossing zeker bespoedigen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
