Parshat Pinchas wordt gelezen aan het begin van de periode van Bein HaMetzarim (de "Dagen van Verdriet"). Deze dagen zijn dagen van rouw om de verwoesting van de Heilige Tempel, die leidde tot de lange en verschrikkelijke ballingschap. Uiteindelijk vormt het lijden van de ballingschap echter de brug naar het ultieme goede in de ware en volledige Verlossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De vraag rijst dan: waarom heeft God het op deze manier gedaan, dat de grote openbaring van het goede juist voortkomt uit een fase van afdaling en verborgenheid gedurende deze drie weken? Had de Heilige, gezegend zij Hij, het goede niet direct kunnen schenken, zonder een voorafgaande fase van duisternis?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De verklaring is dat de volmaaktheid van goed en licht bereikt wordt wanneer ze voortkomen uit kwaad en duisternis. Het is met name wanneer duisternis in licht verandert en kwaad in goed \u2013 dit is de hoogste volmaaktheid die bereikt kan worden. Licht dat voortkomt uit de duisternis en goed dat voortkomt uit het kwaad zijn de meest verheven vormen van licht en goed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanneer het kwaad zelf in het goede verandert, dan wordt de volle kracht van het goede geopenbaard, in die mate dat zelfs het kwaad zelf eraan ondergeschikt wordt. Dit is de innerlijke reden voor alle afdalingen die aan opstijgingen voorafgaan, en voor de hele kwestie van ballingschap en vernietiging. Want de Heilige, gezegend zij Hij, wil dat het volk Isra\u00ebl en alle volken van de wereld de volmaaktheid bereiken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanneer de wereld een periode van verval en duisternis doormaakt, is dit alles ter vervolmaking van het goede en het licht dat geopenbaard zal worden in de ware Verlossing. Wanneer de wereld in beroering is, wordt het naleven van de Noachitische wetten een cruciale daad van positieve transformatie. Het handhaven van de universele zeven geboden zal potentieel "kwaad" (gemanifesteerd in wetteloosheid, immoraliteit, afgoderij, geweld en onrecht) in goed veranderen. De verlossing is voor de hele wereld, waar het goddelijke licht, voortkomend uit een rechtvaardige levenswijze, in zijn volmaakte vorm zal schijnen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
