In Parshat Vayera zit Abraham bij de ingang van zijn tent wanneer hij drie stoffige reizigers ziet die engelen blijken te zijn. Hij nodigt hen binnen en zorgt gul voor hen. Er staat geschreven over Abraham: "Want Ik ken hem, dat hij zijn kinderen en zijn huisgezin na hem zal gebieden de weg des HEEREN te volgen, recht en gerechtigheid te doen" (Genesis 18:19). Uit dit vers leren de Wijzen (Ran Sanhedrin 56b) dat de kinderen van Noach verplicht zijn goedheid en vriendelijkheid te betrachten, inclusief liefdadigheid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit bevestigt naastenliefde en rechtvaardigheid als de weg van God die door de hele mensheid wordt gedeeld. Dit vers leert dat Gods uitverkorenheid voor Abraham niet alleen voortkwam uit zijn goede daden, maar ook omdat hij ernaar streefde Gods universele waarden aan toekomstige generaties door te geven. Deze principes vormen de morele en praktische kern die van de hele mensheid wordt vereist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het hele gedeelte van Vayera is gevuld met daden van vriendelijkheid (zieken bezoeken, gastvrijheid). Daarom werd Abraham gekozen, omdat hij zijn gezin leidde op de weg van God, wat zowel liefdadigheid als rechtvaardigheid omvat. Hoewel Tzedakah (liefdadigheid) niet een van de Zeven Noachitische Geboden is, zouden Noachieten toch op de weg van God moeten wandelen en morele verplichtingen moeten nakomen, zoals zieken bezoeken, rouwenden troosten, voedsel en onderdak bieden aan behoeftigen, en andere niet-monetaire daden zoals groeten, bemoedigende en troostende woorden spreken tegen wie het nodig heeft, en actief luisteren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wie rechtvaardig oordeelt, wordt beschouwd als een partner van God in de schepping. Waarom? Omdat God de wereld heeft geschapen om te worden onderhouden en vervolmaakt. De rechtvaardige rechter onderhoudt en beschermt de wereld tegen vernietiging. Hij vervult Gods wil om een rechtvaardige wereld te scheppen. Het laatste oordeel over de generatie van de zondvloed was gebaseerd op diefstal en geweld. Hieruit begrijpen we dat een gebrek aan rechtvaardigheid vernietiging veroorzaakt en dat rechtvaardigheid fundamenteel is voor het bestaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c'Liefdadigheid en rechtvaardigheid' omvat zowel de Noachitische verplichting om een rechtssysteem (Dinim) te vestigen als het belang van het geven van liefdadigheid. In een wereld vol instabiliteit is het cruciaal om de bijzondere deugd van liefdadigheid en rechtvaardig oordeel te omarmen. Beide kunnen bescherming bieden tegen toekomstig leed en ons allen geestelijk veilig houden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
