בס"ד

Adam and Eve were initially created as a single, unified being. The Creator “sawed” them—meaning, He separated them into two independent entities capable of unifying face to face. This process of creating two separate beings occurred on the first Rosh Hashanah, the day that man was created. On that day, Adam received six of the seven Noahide commandments; the seventh was given in the generation of Noah. The very first human lived as a Noahide, and this day of judgment has meaning for all of his descendants.

The nesirah isn’t merely a process of separation; it’s a necessary condition for creating the deepest and most perfect connection. We can understand this through the following parable.

Imagine two people standing attached, but back-to-back. They are physically connected, but there’s no real relationship between them. No eye contact, no dialogue, no true inner emotional bond. Now, imagine they separate, but only to turn around and become face to face. The moment they see each other, they can make eye contact, talk to one another, and build a deep and real emotional bond. The physical separation was a necessary step to create the authentic and inner connection.

At the beginning of creation the created being had no true ability to express itself, or to return to G-d out of free choice. The nesirah created an external distance, but it enabled the possibility of a “face-to-face” relationship. It made the created being an independent entity, which, out of its own will and longing, can return and unite a perfect unification with its Creator.

In a spiritual sense, this process of separation (nesirah) repeats itself every Rosh Hashanah. This is a moment of deep soul-searching, where a person recognizes the infinite distance between themselves and their Creator. To complete the purpose of creation- creating a dwelling place on the lower world, there should be a world of action where there is a concealment of the Divine presence. So that any human being, from this place, would accept the Kingship, and long to return to the original, unified state with the Creator.

On one hand, we feel ourselves as a created being far from the Creator. On the other hand, precisely at this moment, the Creator, in His abundant mercy, grants us an opportunity to reconnect with Him and bring a new Divine vitality to the world. The entire abundance for the coming year is determined. Therefore, Rosh Hashanah offers deep insights for both Jews and Noahides. It is not only a Day of Judgment, but a day of immense opportunity to rebuild the soulful connection with G-d and return to a state of closeness and unity, similar to the connection that existed at the very beginning of creation.
