It has been 3 years since I first received a card on my birthday that said:
The day you were born was the day Hashem decided He needed you
It struck me this morning, when I said the Mode Ani prayer, that this is actually true not only for your birth day, but for every morning.
Hashem brings every second every living thing (and not living thing) into being through His Word, including me. So this morning, He reasoned, He needs me today.
But what does He need me for. I pray, I study, I try to be kind to those around me, I do my job, in short I don’t actually do anything more than what I would normally do on a Monday…and yet….I am alive so He needs me to do these things today.
Today I want to try to do all those “normal” things with a little more attention because He wants me to do them. Today counts!
Mode Ani Prayer
מוֹדֶה אֲנִי לְפָנֶיךָ מֶלֶךְ חַי וְקַיָּם, שֶׁהֶחֱזַרְתָּ בִּי נִשְׁמָתִי בְּחֶמְלָה. רַבָּה אֱמוּנָתֶךָ.

I offer thanks to You, living and eternal King, for You have mercifully restored my soul within me; Your faithfulness is great.
